How to choose the right mattress for your baby

Choosing the right mattress for your baby is just as important as selecting the right crib — something that holds true not only for babies but also for adults.
A safe and comfortable mattress that fits snugly in the crib (with no more than a 3 cm gap around the edges) will ensure your baby sleeps soundly and rests properly.
We offer a wide variety of mattress types, ranging from soft to medium-firm and firm. To choose the right one for your needs, start by knowing the internal dimensions of your crib or cradle. Next, consult your doctor for recommendations regarding the material and, most importantly, the firmness level. However, you can also base your decision on your personal preferences regarding the mattress filling. Below, you'll find a list of the most common mattress types and their benefits to help you determine which one best suits your needs.
Say NO to Used Mattresses!
Always opt for a brand-new mattress for your baby. Over time and with daily use, mattresses mold to the shape of the person using them. A used mattress has already taken the shape of its previous owner’s body. For your baby’s body to grow and develop properly, it must rest on a surface that does not act like a "mold." Instead, it should lie on a mattress that allows free, unrestricted development based on its unique growth pattern.
Types of Baby Mattresses
Coconut Fiber and Latex Mattress (Cocolatex): The best choice when it comes to natural materials! It contains elasticized, dried, and sterilized coconut fiber, combined with a thick layer of latex foam. One side features the firmer coconut surface, while the other side is medium-firm latex. It can be used on either side, depending on your doctor’s guidance.
Latex Mattress: An excellent medium-firm option. Made from natural latex rubber, it is highly durable, flexible, and comfortable. It provides ideal support for the neck and back, ensuring proper spinal alignment. Naturally hypoallergenic, it also offers antimicrobial and dust-mite-resistant properties.
Coconut Fiber Mattress: Made from 100% natural coconut husk, this firm mattress provides comfort and hygiene, promoting proper airflow for a cool and clean sleep environment. It's highly durable and long-lasting.
LABYRINTH Mattress: Constructed from an innovative thermoplastic elastomer, this hypoallergenic and non-toxic material offers the most comfortable microclimate for restful sleep. It is highly elastic, provides top-level comfort, and is completely waterproof. Easy to clean and quick to dry.
Memory Foam Mattress: Made with advanced VISCOPUR memory foam combined with high-elasticity AQUAPUR foam, it offers the perfect support and ultimate comfort for peaceful, healthy sleep. This ergonomic mattress contours to the baby’s body, reduces pressure points, and creates a "weightless" sensation.
Foam Air Mattress: Crafted from high-resilience foam with great flexibility. Thanks to its open-cell structure, it allows for excellent air circulation while maintaining high durability and responsiveness due to its density.
Spring Mattress: Features BABY BONNELL SPRING UNIT 200B for superior stability and support. The springs form a sturdy core that promotes air circulation, ensuring the mattress remains breathable and of high quality.
Independent Spring Mattress (Pocket Springs): Equipped with BABY POCKET SPRING UNIT 500s—individually wrapped springs housed in fabric pockets—this mattress ensures maximum anatomical support. Each spring adapts independently to the baby’s body weight, providing ergonomic support for the spine and limbs.
Mattress Covers
After choosing the right size and filling for the mattress, you’ll also need to select the material for the outer cover. While the cover is not waterproof, it is made from pure, baby-safe materials to ensure no direct contact with the mattress core. Most mattresses come with the option of three high-quality outer fabric types:
Antibacterial Tencel Fabric - Treated to prevent bacteria and dust mites from developing on the mattress. It is elastic for easy fit, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and flame-retardant to slow the spread of fire.
Jacquard Cotton Fabric - Offers comfort and a soft feel due to its high natural cotton content. It is environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and flame-retardant.
Organic Cotton Fabric - Breathable, helping maintain an optimal sleeping temperature. Ideal for babies with allergies, asthma, or skin conditions. It is eco-friendly, non-toxic, and flame-retardant for enhanced safety.
What Mattress Size Do You Need?
Choosing the correct size and shape is essential, as small gaps around the mattress can pose a risk—little hands and feet could get trapped. Ensure there’s no more than a 3 cm gap between the mattress and the crib sides. We offer a wide range of mattress sizes to fit all types of furniture. Simply measure the interior dimensions of your crib to find the perfect fit.
Caring for Your Baby’s Mattress
Regular cleaning is important for maintaining a hygienic and comfortable sleeping environment. Proper maintenance also extends the life of the mattress. Keeping it clean is simple—just follow these care tips:
- If the mattress has a removable fabric cover, wash it according to care instructions.
- For waterproof plastic covers, wipe regularly with warm water.
- Non-removable covers should be vacuumed and wiped clean with a damp sponge.
- Depending on the mattress type, rotate and flip it regularly to maintain its shape.
All mattresses should be aired out regularly and kept away from direct sunlight.
